Knox Presbyterian Church is excited to welcome the Rev. Joo H. Kim as our new Designated Pastor. He started on March 1st and is in the process of getting to know people. Pastor Joo comes to us from the Church of All Nations in Columbia Heights.
Pastor Joo is a Minister of the Word and Sacrament, PCUSA and most recently served at the Church of All Nations. He holds degree from Northwestern University and Princeton Theological Seminary. He is fluent in both English and Korean. Joo has also served at churches in Georgia and New York State.
Question for Joo: What are the key theological issues currently facing the church and society, and how do they shape your ministry?
Some of the basic issues in society seem to be that of stereotyping people, that we might more easily dismiss them. Race continues to have a powerful grip on the national imagination and shapes our views on education, employment, immigration, the criminal justice system, and the lamentable fact that our churches reflect the historic racial divisions of this country. How we love and respect one another through our commonalities and across our differences in the church is a powerful witness to the world of what it means to be Christian. The greatest task of the church is to be a place and a body in which genuine discipleship becomes possible. My ardent hope is to be the kind of servant leader who by following Jesus calls upon others to also follow Jesus, that no matter what our backgrounds, we learn to trust Jesus together.
Please join us to explore with Pastor Joo the meaning of truly following Christ while celebrating the differences in our community.
